The Parish Messenger September 2003 CHORAL EVENSONG/HIGH TEA Please make sure to attend Tea and Choral Evensong on Sunday, September 21. The Tea will begin at 4:30 PM with Evensong following at 5:30 PM. In the past these events have been highly successful, filling the church with many visitors, several of whom have gone on to become parishioners. They also make a little money for the parish, and are just great fun! The parish has made lots of friends through these teas and Evensong. The music will include works by Thomas Tallis, Adrian Batten, Michel Corette, and William Mundy. Please come out to support our choir and our Parish. LET US WELCOME THE NEWLY BAPTIZED During Mass on Sunday, August 17th, Tassha, Osie and Erykah Teamer received the Sacrament of Baptism and were received into Christ’s One Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church! These fine young people are the children of Mrs. Osiris Teamer and the late Mr. Osie Teamer Sr. Standing as godparents were their older sisters Karla Henry and Osiris (Vickie) Henry of San Antonio, TX, along with Nick Behrens and David Sherwood. On September 14, Linda Adams is to receive the Sacrament of Baptism during the morning Mass. Her sponsors are Norma Morehouse, Wanda Marsh, and Nick Behrens. PARKING As you may have noticed, the City of Omaha has restricted parking on both sides of 40th street. This has caused a significant loss of parking spaces close to the church. While the Vestry works on ideas to deal with this, please consider parking on 39th Street, or 41st Street, so that visitors and the elderly might be able to park closer to the building. THE SOCIETY OF MARY meets on the first Sunday of each month for Low Mass and Rosary at 10:00 AM. The next meeting will be Saturday, October 4. Please speak to the Rector if you are interested in officially joining the Society. All are welcome to attend whether a member or not. THE GUILD OF ALL SOULS sponsors Requiem Low Masses each month. LEAD CONTAMINATION SESSION On Saturday, September 27th from 10:00 am to Noon, the church will host an information sharing session on the problems of lead contamination in our part of the city. The Omaha Lead Safe Coalition will be there to present information on the Superfund and lead testing. The presenter will also bring information packets and sign up those who want to have their children tested for lead levels. Information will also be presented on free lead abatement/cleanup by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). DISCUSSION ON HOMELESS ISSUES The Church will host a panel discussion on Sunday, October 12 at Noon, regarding issues of homelessness in our area and how we can help. Three experts from the Omaha area will be there to answer our questions, address our concerns and advise us as we formulate our policy and services for the numerous homeless in the area that show up at our church door. The experts include: Mike Saklar, Director of Siena-Francis House and a member of the Gene Leahy Mall Homeless Task Force, Joanne Strong, Homeless Speciaist from Community Alliance, and Del Bomberger, Director of St. Stephen Center in South O. All three are part of the Continuum of Care, which is Omaha's system for providing services to the homeless. A lunch after Mass will be provided that day. Newcomers who wish to be Baptized, Confirmed, or received into the church, are urged to contact the Rector at your discretion. Church School for elementary aged children is held Sundays at 10:00 AM.
